Sustainability

Dorsett Hospitality International has the shared vision of our stakeholders to create a sustainable and hospitable business for our communities. We respond to their expectations through our actions, plans, and policies to ensure our operations are on the path towards this goal.

Our tagline, “Invested in Positive Impacts,” encapsulates our commitment to contributing positively to our community, environment, and society, setting the direction for our corporate identity and future endeavours.

Invested in Positive Impacts

"Invested in Positive Impacts" reflects our unwavering commitment to inspiring our community through meaningful actions. In our ongoing dedication to sustainability, we have introduced a series of initiatives under the #DorsettCares programme.

During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we took proactive steps to ensure your safety and well-being. Our commitment to hygiene and wellness led us to install air purifiers in all our guest rooms, ensuring optimal ventilation and air quality.

But we didn’t stop there. In 2023, we celebrated World Environment Day with our inaugural Positive Impacts Week. Across our hotels, we raised awareness and implemented programs that give back to our communities. During this inspiring week, 1,700 individuals joined us, collectively taking 3,944,390 steps during outdoor walks. And at Dorsett Gold Coast, we proudly adopted a koala, supporting conservation efforts at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Highlights:
  • Dorsett Shepherd’s Bush: Our team volunteered to clean up the London city area and revitalised the rear garden to boost biodiversity
  • Dorsett Chengdu: We organised a Natural Landmark Photo Competition to encourage nature appreciation
  • Dorsett Shanghai: Our team’s efforts focused on cleaning up litter in the city park to improve cleanliness
  • Dorsett Wanchai: We offer guests sprout adoption and unveil our new Green Corner at lobby

      Supporting Education and Innovation

DHI has been a steadfast supporter of the younger generation, recognising innovation as a crucial element in equipping them for the future. We have established long-term partnerships with the Vocational Training Council (VTC) through scholarship schemes and continue to explore various collaboration opportunities.

In 2021, we initiated a new project where we sponsored and co-named an “Innovation and Technology Co-Creation Centre powered by Dorsett Hospitality International” with the Vocational Training Council. This initiative aims to support the next generation and foster an ecosystem of innovators in Hong Kong. By supporting this centre, the school can forge meaningful partnerships with industries, providing students with opportunities and platforms to cultivate their entrepreneurial spirit.

    • EarthCheck

As a global business, we are committed to maintaining a consistent and high-standard sustainability program. In 2023, we proudly launched an official partnership with EarthCheck—a leading certification organisation known for its science-based solutions. Through this collaboration, our goal is to expand the number of certified hotels beyond our current three. Additionally, we plan to include our Dao by Dorsett aparthotel brand in this certification portfolio.

EarthCheck’s certification is renowned in the travel and tourism industry. It not only measures and improves sustainability practices but also conducts independent audits. By adhering to this credible standard, we uphold environmental stewardship and provide a detailed framework for minimising our hotels’ environmental impact—a commitment recognised globally.

    • Responsible Sourcing

As a global hotel group, we recognise the importance of the supply chain. We have developed our Sustainable Procurement guidelines to guide our hotel teams to make better purchasing decisions for our community. Since 2019, we have been transitioning our hotels out of single-use amenity bottles, and are continuing to improve through phasing out single-use amenity items and introducing water filters. We continue to look forward to working with partners that share the same vision for sustainability as us.

    • Water Conservation

We recognise that water is a commodity and is integral to the functions of our community and business.

To actively conserve our water usage we have adopted the following actions:

      • In our upcoming flagship opening Dorsett Kai Tak, we have installed water-efficient devices such as low-flow faucets, dual-flush toilets, and sensor-controlled urinals. These installations are anticipated to reduce the site’s potable water consumption by 30%.
      • With our Dorsett Hotels' Eco-value+ housekeeping Programme, we incentivise guests who opt out of housekeeping services with a free in-room minibar or credit.

We are also actively participating in research programs with academic institutions to adopt innovative and industry benchmarks.
